What is an Archery Target Stand?
The Archery Target Stand is a small stand for your bow that holds the target in place while you shoot it. You can use them to practice your aim, and they’re typically found at an outdoor range or as fairgrounds attractions where people go shooting arrows from long distances away with their own bows (which may not actually be real).
DIY: PVC Pipe Target Stand
This is the easiest and least expensive way to build a more permanent archery target stand.
Materials
- One 1 ½-inch cleanout (optional)
- Two 90-degree fittings
- Four 45-degree fittings
- Nine sanitary Tees
- Four 90-degree elbows
- Three 10-foot lengths of 1 ½-inch PVC pipe
- PVC pipe cement
- Saw
- Tape measure
STEPS
Step 1 – Cutting the PVC Pipe
Measure and mark five pieces of pipe at 18 inches, then cut them. You will have six 18-inch long pieces after you are finished cutting.
Step 2 – Assembling the Base Frame With Elbows
This diy bow stand is assembled with elbows to create a small square base. The diy bow stand legs are each attached to the base with 90-degree elbows pointing up. Mark where you want your first elbow to go, then hold it in place and mark below it where two of the stubs will be when attaching a Tee fitting. Attach all three pieces together using four 45-degree fittings. Repeat these steps on the opposite side.
Step 3 – Attaching Tees to Frame
Attach two 90-degree fittings on one end of each Tee fitting, then attach them onto your base frame using 45 degree fittings facing out diagonally from the square. Your tee should be pointing diagonally up and away from your target area.
Step 4 – Mounting the Cleanout on Frame
The cleanout hole will be drilled into one of the diy bow stand sides. The tee fitting that points diagonally up and away from your target area should go over top of this, covering it. Mark where you want to drill your hole; make sure it’s at least three inches away from the diy bow stand side. Drill the hole, then attach your cleanout fitting by screwing on a threaded male adapter and nut.
Step 5 – Attaching Frame to Legs
Attach each leg to the diy bow stand pipe frame using 90-degree fittings pointing up at the top of the diy bow stand legs. Your diy bow stand legs should be pointing diagonally up and away from your target area.
Step 6 – Placing Target on Stand
Set the diy bow stand on a level surface, then place your target over top of the cleanout hole. Mark where you want to drill holes for screws through a diy bow stand into the bottom of the target. Drill diy bow stand holes, then attach target to diy bow stand using wood screws.
Step 7 – Finishing Up!
Place your diy Archery Target Stand in a safe area away from trees and other obstacles that may stop an arrow during use. Make sure this is also far enough away from any buildings or homes as well.
Your diy archery target stand is complete! Now you can focus on practicing your aim in the comfort of a diy Archery Target Stand rather than trying to buy a diy bow stand from an outdoor range or amusement park.
